New England Aquarium welcomes 4 baby penguins

BOSTON -- Spring may be late this year, but some baby penguins arrived right on time.

Four little blue penguin chicks recently hatched at the New England Aquarium.

They're the smallest of all penguin species, and are native to Australia and New Zealand.

“Once they are fully fledged, which means they lose all of that down and they have their nice water-proof feathers, we'll start to introduce them to the rest of the colony and that way they already know how to eat from our hands on exhibit, just like all of the other birds,” penguin biologist at the New England Aquarium Julie Larson said.

Later this spring, chicks from two other penguin species are expected to hatch at the aquarium.
