Multiple beaches closed due to high bacteria counts

As the warm weather finally finds its way to Massachusetts, some local beaches are closed due to high bacteria counts.

Two beaches in Duxbury and one in Wollaston were shut down this week for the bacteria.

The news came as a surprise for people like Sara Corey, a dog walker who goes to Shipyard Lane Beach in Duxbury.

"Yeah, I think it's a little weird," Corey said. "But I've never seen anything wrong with this beach, so we have a great time here."

Shipyard Lane Beach and Landing Road Beach were both closed, but have since reopened.

However, in Quincy, Wollaston Beach remains closed.

"I think in Quincy we take it in stride," Quincy native Amanda Burke said. "Instead of swimming, we just walk the beach."

Burke and her friend Bill Maier say they don't venture into the water at the beach.

"I'm not a beach swimmer," Maier said."I tend to walk the beach. I've never really been in the water."

However, further up the beach where bacteria was not an issue, several people walked along the water's edge.
