MSP trooper placed on leave for allegedly being drunk on the job

DEVENS, Mass. — A Massachusetts State Police trooper has been placed on administrative leave after he showed up intoxicated to work on Saturday night, according to a spokesperson.

Trooper Jonathan Brown, of the Devens barracks, was scheduled to work from 11 p.m. on Saturday to 7 a.m. on Sunday, but was relieved of duty around 2 a.m. after he was allegedly drunk when he arrived to his shift and we slurring his speech over the radio.

Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Dave Procopio confirmed the trooper has been placed on administrative leave until a duty status hearing this week at the State Police headquarters in Framingham.

"The reason for that action was observations made relative to temporary fitness for duty," said Procopio.

There is still no evidence to support if Brown was drinking while on duty, only that he arrived to work already drunk.

According to Procopio, troopers assigned to the Devens barracks aren't given take-home cruisers, so it appears Brown drove his personal vehicle to work.

Massachusetts State Police has not yet released a statement on this incident.
