Milton school worker accused of sexually assaulting 6-year-old

MILTON, Mass -- A substitute teacher is under arrest for alleged sexual conduct with a 6-year old.
The alleged incident happened inside a classroom at Cunningham Elementary School.

The victim is a 6-year-old girl who, according to court documents, said 55-year-old John O’Connor would invite her behind his desk and “put his hand under her shirt and rub her stomach. His hands have gone below the waistband.”

O’Connor was arraigned Friday at Quincy District Court on charges of assault and battery on a person under the age of 14.

Court documents say O’Connor denied any sexual misconduct and told police officers that “Every year he encounters children that are more touchy and clingy than most. He is not as careful as most teachers are and interacts with instinct with his students where he would give hugs or pats on the shoulder to his students.”

O’Connor pleaded not guilty to the charge against him and was released on bail. No one answered the door at his home in Milton Friday night.

The Milton School Department notified parents Friday, calling it an isolated incident. A statement read in part, “This allegation points to a betrayal of the trusts placed in every school employee. The safety and security of our students are my highest priorities.”
