Melrose woman climbs tree after coming across coyotes

A frightened Melrose woman climbed a tree over the weekend to get away from coyotes.

The woman was at Breakheart Reservation when she said she came across a pack of coyotes as she walked her lab, Abby.

The entire encounter was captured through a 911 call.

She called around 7:11 a.m.

Woman: There's coyotes. Yes.

Dispatcher: Okay. Well you need to stay away from them ma'am.

Dispatcher: Are you in a car?

Woman: No I'm in a tree. I'm on the ridge trail.

Dispatcher: You're in a tree?

Woman: Yes, I was hiking with my dog.

The woman told Boston 25 News she thought there were three to four coyotes. Her dog, Abby, stayed below her next to the tree.

The dispatcher sent for help and by the time the fire department arrived, they encountered the woman walking down the trail with her dog. She said the noise from the fire department arriving scared the coyotes away.
