MBTA projects final cost of winter storms over $36M

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Preparation for and clean up from all winter storms this season cost the MBTA more than $36 million, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced at its finance board meeting on Tuesday.

At the meeting, which was also set to discuss potential refunds for MBTA commuters, a breakdown of the snow costs was presented, showing total expenses as well as revenue lost during all of the snow storms.

The first blizzard cost the transportation agency more than $10 million. Other snow storms and the second blizzard cost a total of $17.4 million, and "projected costs" were estimated at around $8.7 million.
