MBTA Commuter Rail train strikes tractor-trailer in Littleton

LITTLETON, Mass. — An MBTA Commuter Rail train struck a tractor-trailer at the Foster Street crossing late Monday morning.

The incident will likely cause severe delays to the Fitchburg line, for both inbound and outbound trains so commuters are being advised to plan accordingly.

MBTA officials said the collision of the 407 outbound train with the tractor-trailer has not caused any injuries nor damage to either the train or the vehicle.

Nick Labonte, the owner of Labonte Transport, the company that owns the tractor-trailer involved in the crash said the driver got stuck between the barriers while crossing the train tracks.

About 30 seconds after getting stuck, the driver saw the incoming train. At that point, the bars came down over the trailer and got stuck between the posts on the side of the trailer.

Labonte could not say whether the driver had seen the flashing lights warning him not to cross or not.

The driver was in the area to pick up logs and bring them back to Quebec.

The driver did not sustain any injuries but the trailer was scrapped.

The road has been closed off and officials are advising people to avoid the area.
