Massachusetts RMV to open new branch this fall

DANVERS, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to open a new RMV branch this fall.

The new location will be at a shopping plaza on Route 1 in Danvers. According to a recent press release, the 10-year lease will allow the RMV to occupy an entire stand-alone building at 8 Newbury Street in the Danvers Crossing Plaza. The building is currently under renovation.

The previous RMV Service Center was located in Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers and was shut down two years ago because of infrastructure issues.

In the press release, Registrar Erin Deveney said the new building should be convenient for everyone who lives in the area, as the old one was not.

Danvers State Representative Ted Speliotis said North Shore residents have been forced to travel to RMV's in Wilmington or Revere since the closing.

"It's critical," Speliotis said of the new branch. "People have been very much inconvenienced."

The new location has many amenities, including parking.

The Danvers site will be the latest new location for the RMV, which recently opened new offices in Leominster, Lawrence, New Bedford, Springfield and Fall River.
