Mass. state trooper nearly hit by car, police searching for suspects

LEOMINSTER, Mass. — A Massachusetts state trooper was nearly hit by a car after a vehicle drove away from him during a traffic stop.

The trooper said on the police radio that the car drove off while he was approaching on foot on Mechanic Street in Leominster, state police say.

The car, with two people inside, nearly hit the trooper, and the trooper then sped after the vehicle.

The trooper eventually found the car on Route 190, and his cruiser and one other began a pursuit.

The suspects drove onto Route 117 in Leominster and pulled into a mobile home park, where the cruisers lost sight.

The cruisers scanned the area and found the unoccupied car on Meadow Pond Drive.

The car was secured with a perimeter set up, and a K-9 unit was on scene with road patrols and a helicopter searching for the two suspects.

The search ended with the suspects still on the loose Saturday night, and a follow-up investigation will be conducted, police say.

This is a developing story, and will be updated as more details are released.
