Man held without bail in fatal JP shootings

BOSTON — A Dorchester man was ordered held without bail Monday after he was arrested in connection to a fatal double-shooting in Jamaica Plain earlier this month.

Christopher Joyce, 23, and Clayborn Blair, 58, were shot and killed May 4 while they were walking in the area of 277 Centre Street.

Police said they arrested Wilvin Guity, 28, of Dorchester, and charged him with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.

In court on Monday, Guity hid his face, and police say he showed no remorse.

"This mother, she'll be able to go to prison, talk to her son, we don't have that and that's not fair," said Pauline Hunt, Joyce's aunt. "Why should he be able to hide his face, not come out but shot my nephew boldly, how fair is that?"

Joyce was set to graduate from Salem State this weekend. He would have been the first person in his family to graduate from college.

Blair was a Navy veteran who was working as a custodian to pay his bills.

Boston police immediately launched an investigation and tirelessly worked to identify a possible shooter.

On Saturday police announced they made an arrest.

“Chris and Clayborn did absolutely nothing wrong and most certainly deserved better fates,” Boston police Commissioner William Evans said in a statement. “And, while there are no words to lessen the pain or sense of loss being felt by the family and friend of Chris and Blyborn, it is my humble hope that word of today’s arrest will provide for them some small measure of comfort and closure.”

According to prosecutors, Guity was caught on camera getting out of the rear passenger door of a white Ford Fusion and walking up to a group of 15 people and opening fire.

Investigators said when he got back in the car and left the area, the car was caught on 10 different surveillance cameras.

Police say they tracked him on surveillance getting out of the vehicle at a nearby liquor store. He was identified by 'distinctive sneakers worn during the shooting,' police said.

If you have any information, you are asked to contact police.
