Man arrested for allegedly breaking into home, slashing homeowner's wrist

DORCHESTER, Mass. — A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to break into a Dorchester home after falsely identifying himself as police officer.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Boston native Taurean Pearson, was arrested after police responded to a call for a breaking and entering in progress on Lyon Street in Dorchester.

Pearson allegedly forced himself into an apartment owned by a man named Tim Edwards.

Edwards says it was 2:30 a.m. on Saturday when he heard a commotion at the door.

"He starts knocking on the door, he starts banging on the door, he starts kicking the door," Edwards said.

The man allegedly said he needed help, and that someone was after him before he busted the door open.

Edwards pushed Pearson out of his entryway, which led Pearson to pull out a knife and slash Edwards on the wrist.

"He comes out with a knife," Edwards said. "I didn't feel it, but that's when he slits me on the wrist."

Edwards said he wasn't worried about himself during the incident, but was more afraid for his wheelchair-bound friend inside.

"I was just mainly concerned about my friend, who is a paraplegic," Edwards said.

Pearson then went upstairs to Catherine McField's apartment, rather than leaving the building.

"When he got here, he said 'Open the door, it's Boston Police,'" McField said. "I'm like, 'You're not police, get away from my door.' Next thing you know, we hear 'Bap, bap.' The glass shattered, he was going crazy. He done jumped out the window."

Officers found Pearson as he tried to flee on foot on Lyon Street, arrested him and recovered the knife.
