Man accused of putting recording device in adult bathroom at day care

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — An East Taunton man was arrested for allegedly putting a recording device into an adult's bathroom at a day care facility.

Police said that last week an employee at The Learning Experience on Main Street in Foxborough spotted a suspicious item.

Officers responded and identified the device as a pen-like recorder. An investigation led police to identify a visiting contractor working at the day care as the suspect, and 48-year-old Darin McNeil was subsequently arrested.

Police say the suspect told them he was trying to point the camera at the sink because he likes recording women. They say he also talked about doing this before.

Police said following the arrest they found three more recording devices, one on McNeil and the other in his vehicle. When they asked him if he was trying to record children he said no, only women.  Police say he also admitted he recorded his girlfriend before.

McNeil was charged with unlawful wiretap, possessing a device for wiretap and attempt to commit a crime wit secret sexual surveillance. He was arraigned and released on $2,500 cash bail.

The company McNeil works for, Electric by Design, said, "We are deeply troubled by these allegations. Once we found out about this he was terminated."

Police said The Learning Experience Staff has been cooperating in the investigation and DCF has been notified. A statement from the company's corporate headquarters said, "We are aware of the situation and continue to use every resource at our disposal to assist the local franchisee and work with the authorities in their investigation. No children were affected and we remain committed to their safety and security at all times."
