2 juveniles, 2 adults hospitalized after school bus crashes into Dorchester home

BOSTON — Authorities are investigating after a school bus carrying students crashed into a home in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood on Monday.

Boston Police say they received a call at 4:39 p.m. a Boston Public Schools bus slammed into the side of a house in the area of Claridge Terrace and Wentworth Street.

Two juveniles and two adults were transported to an area hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, according to officials. All four patients were on the bus at the time of the crash.

A Wentworth Street homeowner says it felt like an earthquake when the bus collided with the home.

“I just heard a big bang and the house like shook a little bit,” said the man who asked not to be identified.

When he looked out front he tells Boston 25 he couldn’t believe his eyes.

“I seen a bus stuck up under my porch,” he said.

His neighbor was home working.

“One big crash and then I stood up and I heard an even bigger crash and when I looked and saw the bus had ran into my neighbor’s house,” said Stacey Coplin King whose SUV was struck.

Her rental SUV out front was taken for a ride.

“It was smashed all along the sides, the tire was off the rim and it was up on the sidewalk,” said Coplin King.

The Boston Public School bus was carrying nine children and the accident left them in tears.

“They were shook -they were shook some of them were crying,” said Coplin King.

“We were concerned the building could collapse it was a partial collapse as it is,” said Paul Burke who is the Boston Fire Commissioner.

Neighbors are thankful the kids were not seriously injured.

“So, I am extremely grateful that all the children were okay,” said Coplin King.

And that is something this homeowner is happy about even if his recently renovated front porch may have to be rebuilt.

“As long as everybody is safe and nobody is hurt, that’s a good thing because buildings can be replaced,” he said.

His family will not be able to stay in the home tonight because of the damage. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
