Man shot by police after domestic incident in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mass. -- Police in Plymouth shot a man after he allegedly fired shots at officers who were called to a domestic incident.

According to police, the man's wife called them around 6 p.m. saying he fired shots at a car after an altercation.

When they arrived, 36-year-old Michael Walsh opened fire at officers. In turn, the officers fired back.

“It’s always a challenge when you’re confronted with someone coming at you firing a weapon," Plymouth Police Chief Michael E. Botieri said.

Walsh was taken by medical helicopter to Boston. Seven officers were also taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

“We have several officers at the hospital as a precautionary measure but none of the officers was struck," Botieri said.

Plymouth Count District Attorney Tim Cruz said there have been problems at the home before, but would not elaborate.

“That will be part of the investigation - the entire relationship between husband and wife and also what’s been going on down here," he said.

Walsh's condition is unknown at this time.
