FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Did NFL owners conspire to keep Colin Kaepernick out of the league?
According to a report, Patriots owner Robert Kraft will be asked on the record about the grievance filed by the one-time Super Bowl quarterback.
Kaepernick is alleging that NFL owners have colluded over plans to keep from signing him after his protest during the playing of the national anthem sparked league-wide protests from other players.
The issue has taken center stage amid declining NFL ratings this season and owners have come under scrutiny for passing on the quarterback who helmed the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the trio of owners have been ordered to turn over all emails and phone records related to Colin Kaepernick and will be deposed on the record about the situation.
Kaepernick has been passed over by the 49ers, the Patriots and the Texans in recent weeks, all in need of a viable quarterback (or backup).
Gaming and sports attorney Daniel Wallach told Boston 25 News there is a lot for Kaepernick and his attorney to prove.
“There's not going to be a smoking gun where a team owner says to another team owner listen do not sign Colin Kaepernick but that does not eliminate possibility that arbitrator could be convinced by circumstantial evidence," he said.
