It may be spring, but some still need snow shovels

LEOMINSTER, Mass. — The calendar says it's spring, but don't put away those shovels just yet.

In Leominster, there's a coating of snow on the ground, and it's expected to change over to sleet and rain as the day progresses.

WATCH: Your Marathon Monday Forecast

Boston 25 News crews saw plows working through the early-morning hours to clear the heavy, slushy mix from the roads.

Temperatures will increase through the 30s gradually Monday morning and should reach the lower 40s by noon, according to StormTracker Weather Meteorologist Shiri Spear.

Plan on late day highs in the 50s. Boston and Worcester will probably reach 50, mid- to upper-50s for southeastern Massachusetts and only mid- to upper-40s in southern New Hampshire. But temperatures aren’t the big story -- The rain and wind for Marathon Monday are!

Expect all day rain with afternoon downpours and gusts 30-50 mph locally -- unfortunately blowing against runners.

The heaviest rain is expected 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., ending in Boston by 8 p.m. with some patchy drizzle through midnight.

Rain totals will range from 1 to 3 inches. There’s also a slight chance of thunder and lightning.
