Infant dies at day care in Dover, New Hampshire

DOVER, N.H. — An infant was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at a day care in Dover, New Hampshire, police say.

Dover Police responded to Honey Hill Child Care Center on Central Avenue on Thursday afternoon after receiving a report of a child that wasn't conscious or breathing.

The infant was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, and was later pronounced dead.

One neighbor said that the incident was a family's worst nightmare.

"There's nothing worse than finding out a parent is going home with no kid tonight," the neighbor said. "It's sad, it is. Especially as a parent with children."

For parents who live nearby, there's not a lot that could heal the pain from the loss.

"What do you tell the parents?" one person nearby said. "There's nothing you can tell the parents. 'I'm sorry, we didn't notice your child was breathing.'"

Police are investigating the cause of the death, and no other details will be released until an autopsy has been completed Friday morning.

An attorney referred to Boston 25 News by an employee at the day case did not return any calls after the incident.
