HAVERHILL, Mass. - A Haverhill man was killed by a fallen tree while clearing branches with his son.
Sixty-year-old Michael Sughrue was found pinned under a tree around 5 p.m. Sunday after a snapped tree fell on top of him. He was in his backyard on Hoyt Road when a large tree he was working to clear landed on him.
The tree was leaning against a nearby tree for support before eventually giving out and falling onto Sughrue.
Haverhill Fire cut the snapped tree to take it off Sughrue before transporting him to Holy Family Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
