Real or fake? Sisters behind Nair shampoo tweet settle debate

BROCKTON, Mass. — The Brockton sisters behind the viral "My sister thought Nair was shampoo" tweet are admitting the whole thing was a prank.

Sixteen-year-old Kayla Connors and 12-year-old Kelsey Connors told FOX25 that the photo isn't real and Kelsey still has a full head of hair.

"I didn't think people would believe it," said Kayla.

What inspired the prank tweet was Kelsey finding a bottle of Nair in Kayla's room. She had no idea what it was, and that got Kelsey thinking. They decided to pull a prank of their friends. Kayla snapped a photo of her young sister, used the Bald app to make her sister look hairless, and then tweeted out the now viral photos.

Almost immediately, Kayla heard from friends about the photos.

"A couple of friends asked me if it was real - I said it was real," said Kayla.

She then went to bed, and by the time she woke up, the tweet had been retweeted thousands of times.

From there, the tweet and the photos have dominated internet discussion. There are thousands of comments online of people discussing whether the photo is real or not.

"It doesn't feel real at all - that my sister's face, bald, is everywhere," said Kayla.

It's made F***Jerry's Facebook and Instagram, On Air with Ryan Seacrest's Facebook page, and the front page of Instagram. The bald photo of Kelsey has also spun off into different memes.

At least she doesn't have to worry about shampoo anymore!

"You can type in Hong Kong and Kayla's twitter handle in Google and find thousands comments," said the girl's father, Jason Connors.

The family lives in Brockton and Kayla attends West Bridgewater High School. Jason Connors said everyone in their community has been talking about the tweet, and a lot of people believe it.

"One friend called my mom and said she was shopping for bandanas for Kelsey...that was the first person we told it was just a prank," said Kayla.

The girls have only told close friends. They said some of their friends have actually gotten mad over it.

"I'm surprised people believed it - we joke around so much," said Kayla.

The Connors decided to come clean about the prank, which they said was all just for fun.

Kayla also said that if Ellen reaches out to them about the tweet, she's going to have to shave her sister's head while she's sleeping.
