Florida school shooting survivors speak at Harvard University

BOSTON — Students who survived last month's shooting at a Florida high school that left 17 people took part in a roundtable discussion at Harvard Tuesday night..

The event at Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics featured six students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

The students have become vocal advocates for stricter gun laws.

Following the shooting, Ryan Deitsch and Alex Wind helped create the #NeverAgain movement which calls to end gun violence and mass school shootings.

"It's tragic every single time because it doesn't matter how much we speak out at this point," said Deitsch. "This is not the end of this story. We need to make sure everyone across the world knows that. The very fact of the matter is that we will continue to reach out to communities."

"This event does change us physically, mentally, emotionally," said Deitsch.

Students say they're expecting more than 1 million people to participate in marches on Saturday in Washington and in other parts of the country calling for tougher firearms regulations.

“I’ve seen this before, I’ve seen this countless times. We get two weeks in news bundles of thoughts prayers everyone sends flowers then it’s over,” shooting survivor Cameron Kasky said.
