Firefighter battles blaze in his own home

CARVER. Mass. — Carver Firefighters Steven Blanchard and his son, Tim, both worked alongside 45 other members in their department to put out a fire in Steven's house.

The fire broke out on Monday at around 3:20 p.m., and fire chiefs were at the house on South Main Street within a minute of receiving the call.

A total of 47 Carver firefighters, along with 15 mutual aid firefighters from Plymouth, Wareham, Middleboro and Plympton worked for over an hour to control the flames.

The home, which had been built in the 1750s, was of 'balloon-type' construction, meaning the fire spreading easily throughout the entire structure.

Steven, has been with the Carver Fire Department for 26 years, formerly as a dispatcher and currently as an active firefighter. His son, Tim, has been a member of the department for nine years.

No one was injured in the fire, but Steven and his wife Ellen lost everything and are in immediate need of help.

The family needs clothing, lodging, personal hygiene items and more to help them get back up on their feet.

The Carver Fire Department has set up a GoFundMe page to make it easier to help out the Blanchard family.
