Fire breaks out at Somerville apartment

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — A fire broke out at an apartment in Somerville on Saturday.

Somerville's fire chief said the fire started on a front porch, and quickly spread throughout the three-story building.

"It was a tough fight, it was in the ceiling, in the walls, burned right through the roof," the fire chief said.

Tufts students living in the apartment were displaced, and one student said he and his roommates quickly realized they couldn't fix the problem on their own.

"We noticed there was a little fire there, and we were trying to stop it by ourselves," the student said. "But sadly we realized it was not only there, and the whole house is burning.

The fire chief said the fire reached three alarms at one point, and said they're always worried about fires spreading in the tight neighborhood.
