Family remembers victim of fatal wrong-way crash on I-495

A family is mourning after the loss of 35-year-old Raming Medina Cabreja, who died in a wrong-way crash on I-495 on Friday.

Cabreja was killed by the wrong-way driver around 2:15 a.m. early Friday morning, just minutes after police got a call for a driver heading north on the southbound side of I-495 in Westford.

Cabreja's sisters, Rubin Rubiera and Maria Trinidad, said their brother was always the one to go to for help.

"He was the older brother just to talk to about anything and he knows what to say," Rubiera said.

Trinidad said not having her brother around is going to be a challenge.

"It's going to be very difficult for us to learn how to live our life without him in it," Trinidad said.

Cabreja's dog, Lindsay, was in the car with him during the crash, and made it out alive with injuries.

Now, with veterinary bills possibly hitting $5,000, the family has set up a fund for the dog's future medical care.

"People have been so supportive," Trinidad said. "We can't be more thankful and grateful."

Trinidad said she hopes her brother's legacy can provide hope for others.

"We're using his life story as an inspiration," Trinidad said. "To keep going, and to live life to the fullest, just like he did."

Police say the other driver in the crash first went to Lowell General Hospital, but was then airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.

No charges have been filed in the accident.
