Family looking for justice after murder victim's gravestone vandalized

A family is devastated after finding their son’s headstone vandalized at the Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.

David Lee Cole was killed in Dorchester nine months ago after being shot four times. The pain of his loss came back to haunt his mother on Sunday.

When Rosemarie Cole learned her son’s gravestone was toppled over and broken, with a staining liquid poured over the headstone, she didn’t think it was accident.

Cole told Boston 25 News that she believes her son’s gravestone was targeted.

“I’m so hurt, I’m so hurt. I mean, that’s my baby boy,” said Cole. “My son wasn’t no saint, but he’s gone now, let him rest in peace.”

Cole’s sister was the one who notified the police after they found the damaged grave site, with David’s precious belongings scattered in the grass.

“Basically, we can’t point any fingers [but] the good Lord knows, he was watching,” said her sister.

The Cole family filed a police report with the Boston Police Department, who are still investigating the damage.
