Fallen tree limbs trap two people in Methuen

METHUEN, Mass. — Severe weather brought power outages and lightning strikes around Massachusetts, and also caused tree limbs to fall onto two people in Methuen.

Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon said the two had no visible injuries after the incident, but were in pain.

The instance was one of several across Methuen on Monday, where storms produced gusts of winds that took down multiple trees.

Art Crossman, who lives on Taylor Street, says he's never seen a storm quite like the one that blew through Monday afternoon in the 35 years since he built his house.

"Never had one this short a period of time that caused this much damage," Crossman said.

Crossman said one tree "just fell down," even though it appeared to be healthy.

"Look at that tree from the outside, it looks fine," Crossman said. "But it's all rotten from the inside."

A massive gust of wind shook Crossman's house, and blew over the tree.

"Didn't hear it, didn't hear a thing," Crossman said. "The reason I didn't hear it was because the wires are holding it up. It never hit the ground."

Multiple trees were blown down on Monday, including one where a tree split in half and caused two people to be trapped.

Crossman said the storm caused his home to lose power, which he said put a damper on his plans for the night.

"Lost power immediately," Crossman said. "So, that spoils our night for TV."
