Dog survives after wrong-way crash on I-495 in Westford

WESTFORD, Mass. — A family says they've lost a part of themselves after a fatal wrong-way crash in Westford, and the one thing keeping them going is their dog.

The dog, named Lindsay, was involved in the crash last weekend, where one driver was heading north on the southbound side of I-495.

Lindsay's owner, Raming Cabreja, was killed in the crash after the wrong-way driver hit his car.

"He was my right hand," Cabreja's mother Ingrid said. "He was always to my side."

Cabreja was just 35 years old, and his mother said her son loved Lindsay like she was his child.

"At least I have my little Lindsay with us," the mother said. "She is like a little girl, she's a baby."

Cabreja was hit head-on, and Lindsay's face was severely damaged in the accident.

The officer on scene helped to save her.

"He was right away taking care of her," Cabreja's partner Marco Eimer said. "It was a complete big surgery because of her smashing into something in the car, maybe to the dashboard."

Surgeons and other doctors from the Westford Veterinary Emergency and Referall Center in Westford saved Lindsay.

Cabreja worked as a wardrobe stylist and producer. Now, his family is holding onto Lindsay dearly, after everything they just went through.

"She's a little bit of our shooting star," Eimer said.

The 45-year-old driver, who is from Westford, stayed on scene. The accident is still being investigated.
