Dog found abandoned in closed backpack in West Roxbury

BOSTON — The MSPCA is hoping the public can help find the owner of a dog who was found abandoned in West Roxbury.

The MSPCA said that a West Roxbury resident was walking home last Friday when she spotted a backpack that had been left under a bush near Center and Willow Streets. The woman noticed the bag was moving; she opened it and saw a Pomeranian.

The MSPCA said the chocolate-brown dog, a 9-year-old, had been left inside the bag on purpose.

The dog was taken to the MSPCA and staffers said pup had a very low body temperature but used heating blankets to warm her up.

They have renamed the dog Jan and said she's adorable and very friendly; the MSPCA predicts a staffer will likely adopt her by Friday.

The MSPCA is urging anyone with information about who abandoned the put to call its hotline at 800-628-5808.
