CHELSEA, Mass. — After years of battling flames, Chelsea firefighter Pete Kannler passed away after his battle with cancer Saturday.
The 37-year-old was a firefighter and instructor at the Massachusetts Fire Academy when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, according to the Boston Herald. It's a form of cancer that is unusual for someone as young as Kannler.
He lived in Townsend, but was born in Wakefield, Mass., according to an obituary posted online.
Kannler leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Local first responders began paying tribute to Kannler online early Sunday morning.
