Burst pipe floods Yarmouth Town Hall

YARMOUTH, Mass. — A pipe that burst in subfreezing temperatures caused major flooding and damage to all three floors at Yarmouth Town Hall on Cape Cod.

Firefighters and police responded to the building at about 7 p.m. Saturday. Officials told the Cape Cod Times that a 2-inch sprinkler pipe in the attic froze and burst, sending water cascading down the entire building.

Fire Capt. Tom Lundquist says most of the town offices, a computer room and the meeting room were flooded. He also says flooding affected the town's computer servers, which caused problems with fire station computers Sunday.

Town officials called in an emergency cleanup company.

Officials say they're trying to open Town Hall by Tuesday, but aren't sure if that's possible. Damage is still being assessed.
