Brockton officers posted outside middle schools after recorded assault

BROCKTON, Mass. -- In response to a vicious beating outside the south middle school Monday, Brockton’s mayor placed police at all six of the city’s middle schools at dismissal starting today.

Thirteen-year-old Hannah Kenney-Blaisdell told Boston 25 News a chunk of her hair was ripped out after she was jumped outside school and assaulted.

To make matters worse, a group of other students watched what happened and recorded the video on Snapchat.

Superintendent Kathleen Smith said Brockton has a zero tolerance for violence, and Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter says he finds the video disturbing.

"We have a deep, long-time commitment to working together to ensure that students are safe. Any kind of collaboration with the City of Brockton's Police Department enhances safety, including after dismissal when most students have gone home but some are still on school grounds or in the neighborhood,” Smith said in a statement

The police will be posted outside the middle schools until security protocols can be double checked.

The parent of a middle school student at another school said she think it’s a good idea.

“Well, nowadays pretty much junior high, middle school, high school. It’s good to have protection you can get,” Susan Pierce said.

Pierce's daughter, Ashley Rodriguez, said what happened to Hannah was wrong.

“I thought it was cruel. Why would you do that to a person to a human being?" Ashley said.
