EVERETT, Mass. - A construction worker at Wynn Boston Harbor died Tuesday after being injured at the site, the company said in a statement.

A Wynn Casino spokesperson said the worker was a subcontracted employee and was injured while operating heavy equipment.

Wynn Boston has identified the victim as Joe Teixeira.

“This is a very sad day for everyone at Wynn Boston Harbor,” the company said in a statement. ”Our deepest condolences and heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and co-workers.”

According to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the 56-year-old man was operating an excavator at the south end of the construction site taking apart a trench box when the incident occurred. The man reportedly regained consciousness at the scene before he was taken to MGH where he later died.

OSHA investigators and Everett Police were at the site Wednesday to gather evidence.

OSHA told Boston 25 News it has opened inspections of Suffolk Construction and J. Derenzo Co. due to the fatal accident.

OSHA also said there are four open inspections after incidents at Wynn, including the man who fell down an elevator shaft in January.

One worker told Boston 25 News that what happened was a "freak accident." Another said  supervisors held a meeting to remind everyone to be safe and aware of their surroundings.

The incident is under investigation and is not considered suspicious and no foul play is suspected.

The medical examiner will now determine the cause of death.
