"[We] had to kind of chisel our way through the ice as we walked out, it was water to the shore and then out to ice where the dog was standing on a block," firefighter Sam Blake Jr. told Boston 25 News.
Blake was the rescuer who braved the icy water to save Rosie.
"She was up on the ice when we got there but she had definitely gone through because she was soaking wet," he said.
After Rosie realized Blake was there to help, their journey back to shore began.
"It was really thick muck of just, stuck, every step I took it was just sticking sticking," he said.

Another firefighter used the rope tied to Blake and helped pull the pair back to shore.
Rosie is now warm and safe, thanks to the joint efforts of police and the fire department.
"As soon as she got to shore she shook right off and scooted right off home, she knew exactly where she was going when she got off the ice," Blake said.
