Bill aims to ban standardized tests, expand recess

The Massachusetts' Teachers Union is backing a bill that would take the stress of standardized tests away from teachers and students.

According to the Boston Herald, the bill would place a three-year ban on mandated standarized tests. It would also expand recess to students in elementary schools and remove student test scores in teacher evaluations.

The bill was reportedly filed by Sen. Michael Rush of West Roxbury and backed by the teachers union.

Critics of the bill say the changes would hurt the progress Massachusetts schools have made to become the highest-performing in the country.
