'Belle of the Ball' helps young girls find prom dresses for free

BOSTON — Going to prom can cost a family upward of a thousand dollars, and the shopping experience is out of reach for many families.

That's where 'Belle of the Ball" comes in - an annual event founded by Anton Cleaners and sponsored by Boston 25 News and Jordan's Furniture.

This year, Boston 25 News anchors Kerry Kavanaugh and Jacqui Heinrich and reporter Crystal Haynes served as personal shoppers to help prom goers find the perfect gown.

The event brings racks of stunning gowns, shoes and accessories to the Hynes Convention Center, where qualifying families can come and chose their favorite dresses.

The exhibit hall turned into a true prom shopping paradise on Saturday morning as personal shoppers helped high school girls get the royal treatment, picking out their dream dresses and even getting alterations and photos - all at not cost to them.

Almost all the items at the "free prom shopping day" are donated and then professionally cleaned by Anton's Cleaners.

Hundreds attended the event, and nobody went home empty-handed.
