Andover high school student arrested for online shooting threat

ANDOVER, Mass. – A high school student was arrested after police said he posted a shooting threat toward the school on Snapchat.

The student has not been identified, but police said he’s a junior at Andover High School.

The threat, which was reported Monday night, showed a photo of rifles and warned others not to go to school on Tuesday.

Police said the photo had been downloaded from the internet and was not taken by the suspect.

“While we are confident that there is no danger, I am proud that the procedures we have in place in the event of a threat were followed, and I am pleased with the level of teamwork and constant communication among officials as this unfolded over the past few hours,” Superintendent Sheldon Berman said. “The Andover Police Department is to be commended for investigating this threat with great professionalism and providing a resolution within two hours of the initial report.”
