6 people injured after SUV crashes into MBTA bus in Saugus

SAUGUS, Mass. — Six people were injured in a head on collision between an SUV and an MBTA bus in Saugus on Sunday afternoon.

Officials said the 47-year-old driver of the Ford SUV was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Neighbors say she was unconscious after the crash.

"I was in my yard washing my car and all of a sudden I hear boom - I thought he ran over plastic but when I ran out I saw the other car and we ran over to see if there were any children in the car - no but she was unconscious not moving at all," said Leonard Fauci, a neighbor.

Transit Police said  four bus passengers and the bus driver were also transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators believe the SUV first hit a silver car parked on the side of the road before veering into the MBTA bus. The force of the impact was so strong it sent the bus right into the tree in front of Leonard Fauci's home.

"The front of the bus hit the tree, you see all the bark taken off," said Fauci. "It wasn't like a horn blowing and then a bang, it was like a boom, I said 'my god.'"

Fauci said there have been several accidents on his street over the years, so many that he's had to replace his fence because of the crashes.

The crash remains under investigation.
