• Teens get ready for prom at 'Belle of the Ball'

    Updated:

BOSTON - High school prom it’s one of the most memorable and most expensive events in a young adult's life.

For students facing financial constraints, the night they dream of for years can remain out of reach. Thanks to some people coming together, that’s not the case for 500 girls in Massachusetts.

On Saturday, high school girls showed up to shop for free at the Belle of the Ball.

"I think it’s nice that people are willing to help out girls who can’t afford buying dresses,” said Ayanna Coleman, a high school senior.

The program has been operating for 13 years and helps pre-qualified students, referred by guidance counselors, teachers, and social service agency personnel. Anton’s Cleaners, who puts on the event, and other sponsors said this year was the biggest yet.

The girls get to try on different dresses and pick out matching jewelry and accessories, putting together their dream prom outfit.

    FOX25 Cares sponsored the event.
