'Roseanne' reboot canceled after tweet about Obama aide

The ABC Entertainment president said the network has decided to cancel the 'Roseanne' reboot following a tweet from the actress.

Roseanne Barr on Tuesday tweeted to Jarrett that she was sorry "for making a bad joke" about her politics and her looks. Valerie Jarrett, who is African-American, advised Barack and Michelle Obama.

Meanwhile, comic Wanda Sykes, who is a consulting producer on "Roseanne," tweeted that she would not be returning to the show.

Barr's now-deleted tweet read: "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj." It was part of a busy period on Twitter for Barr, who wrote tweets or retweeted attacks on Michael Moore, Chelsea Clinton and George Soros. In her apology, Barr said the Jarrett comment was "in bad taste."

According to Twitter, ABC said the tweet was "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with out values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

Barr has caught flack in the past about her tweets and been involved with other controversies.

The original "Roseanne" played on TV from 1988 to 1997; Barr won both an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance in the show. The eight episode reboot was a mid-season premiere for ABC and was well received by viewers.

Roseanne was scheduled to return to the air this fall with new episodes.
