South Shore residents preparing for second round of flooding

MARSHFIELD, Mass. — With Friday’s forecast calling for heavy rain, residents on the South Shore are concerned about a second round of flooding.

Areas of Marshfield are still a mess following the powerful nor’easter last week.

Crews have been working to clear what the ocean forced onshore, and crews have been working to clear storm drains that are now covered with frozen mud.

“The loader scraped everything off, and the guys came out with hand tools and opened everything up for the water to get in,” Shawn Patterson, of the Marshfield Department of Public Works, said.

There are about 3,000 storm drains in town, and the Department of Public Works said it expects to get all of them before the rain starts to fall.

Crews are also working to widen the snow-covered roads further inland to make sure those storm drains are clear.
