Worcester man arrested after police find drugs in his shoe

WORCESTER, Mass. — A 24-year-old Worcester man has been arrested after a brief foot chase led police to finding drugs hidden in his shoe.

On Friday evening, police were patrolling in the Merrifield Street area when they saw a car drive through a stop sign. The officer pulled over the driver and asked for his license and registration, neither of which he had. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Randy Marines, gave the officer his U.S. Passport.

The officer said Marines seemed nervous and his hands were shaking and he was stuttering his words. The officer asked Marines to get out of the car and he was searched for weapons. During the frisk, police say Marines pushed the officer away and began to run up Merrifield Street. The officer ran after him and tackled him to the ground. Marines refused all of the officer’s commands to remove his hands from his waistband and put them behind his back, so the officer forcibly handcuffed Marines.

The officer continued to search him, which is when he found something in his left shoe. Police say they found a plastic bag filled with two Oxycodone pills, a bag filled with heroin and another five bags of crack cocaine. They also found nearly $300 cash.

Marines is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, failure to produce a license, two counts of distribution of a Class B substance, distribution of a Class A substance and witness intimidation. He is set to be arraigned on Monday.
