FOXBORO — For 11 seasons, Vince Wilfork clogged the middle of the defensive line with his size and athleticism, helping the Patriots win four AFC titles and two Super Bowls between 2004-2014.
Wednesday, he formally retired as a Patriot after signing a one-day contract.
Wilfork announced his retirement on Monday in a promotional video for Kingsford Barbeque, promising to host a tailgate party at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, September 7 before the Patriots open the season against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 13 NFL seasons, the last two in Houston, Wilfork had 559 tackles and 16 sacks. He also recovered four fumbles and intercepted three passes, returning one interception for 28 yards.
His presence on the field and in the locker room helped define an era of Patriots football that was incredibly successful. During his time in New England, the Patriots won 136 regular-season games while only losing 40.
Additionally, the Pats went 15-8 in the postseason, including Super Bowl wins following the 2004 and 2014 seasons.
