Patriots win Super Bowl LI

HOUSTON — A relentless march down the field ended with a touchdown, giving the Patriots their 5th Super Bowl win. 34-28.

Super Bowl LI is the first Super Bowl to go into overtime. Tied 28-28.

After a drive that included a miraculous catch by Julian Edelman, the Patriots tied up the game with a two-point conversion.

When the Patriots' defense forced a fumble out of Matt Ryan, the offense turned around and marched down the field to further cut the lead.

A quick pass to Danny Amendola put the Patriots in the end zone and capped off the drive. But a two-point conversion put the Patriots within striking distance of the Falcons with just over 7 minutes left in the game.

Stephen Gostkowski cut the Falcons lead in the fourth quarter with a 33-yard field goal.

That the put the Patriots within two touchdowns of the Falcons late in the game with the score at 28-12.

With everything going wrong, the Patriots managed to find the end zone as time winded down on the third quarter.

Relentless runs by LeGarrette Blount put the Patriots in scoring position and Tom Brady connected with James White for team's first touchdown.

But a missed extra point by Stephen Gostkowski was emblematic of the Pats' struggles.

Midway through the third quarter, the Falcons extended their lead with another touchdown.

Matt Ryan connected with Tevin Coleman for a 6-yard touchdown pass on their second possession.

After asking to perform on the roof of NRG stadium, Lady Gaga kicked off a larger-than-life halftime show apparently standing on a set that looked like the roof of the stadium.

She began with a patriotic performance and a shortened recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance before dropping into the stadium suspended by wires.

After a devastating first half, the Patriots managed to get on the board just before the break with a field goal.

Stephen Gostkowski nailed a 38-yard field goal to get the Patriots on the board.

A penalty filled-march into scoring position for the Patriots ended with another turnover and another Falcons touchdown.

Robert Alford picked off a pass intended for Danny Amendola and returned it 82 yards for another Falcons touchdown.

A 17-yard pass to Austin Hooper put the Falcons up 14-0 in the second quarter. Matt Ryan connected with the tight end for the team's second score.

Patriot Patrick Chung was called for defensive pass interference, but the call was declined.

After a fumble by LeGarrette Blount, the Falcons took the ball straight into the end zone to take the game's first points.

The Falcons went up 7-0 after a short run by Devonta Freeman.

Boston is set and the game is underway.

Patriots fans spent Sunday sending us pictures of their game day outfits and setups.

The Pru didn't want to be left out and lit up with a "Go Pats!" message.

Both teams punted on their first possessions.

The Patriots were stopped a yard short of the first down marker to go three-and-out on the team's first possession.

The Falcons broke a run up to midfield before giving the ball back to Edelman, who was marked down just short of the 10-yard line.

The opening ceremonies are over and Super Bowl LI is getting underway.

The Falcons won the coin toss, which was tossed by former President George H.W. Bush.

Luke Bryan sang the national anthem in a reported 2 minutes and 4 seconds, falling short of the betting over/under of 2 minutes and 7 seconds.

Three cast members from Broadway's smash hit Hamilton sang "America the Beautiful."

Phillipa Soo, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Jasmine Cephas Jones played the Schuyler sisters in the Broadway show.

Update: 6:16 p.m. 

Before the big game kicked off, NFL hall-of-famers were introduced to the crowd on the field at NRG Stadium.

Update: 5:35 p.m.

Wide receiver Michael Floyd was deactivated ahead of Super Bowl LI Sunday night, according to the New England Patriots.

LaAdrian Waddle (T), DJ Foster (RB), Jacoby Brissett (QB), Cyrus Jones (CB), Justin Coleman (CB) and Jordan Richards (S) all joined Floyd on the inactives list.

Update: 4:57 p.m. 

Tom Brady's Parents arrived at NRG Stadium and were greeted by thousands of Patriots fans.

Brady revealed earlier in the week it had been a tough year in his family as his mother had been ill. She showed up strong and ready to cheer on Brady as her son prepared for his seventh Super Bowl.
