Super Bowl bound: Boston to Minneapolis price tag

BOSTON — The New England Patriots are heading back to the Super Bowl! And you want to go to the big game!

Well, so does everyone else and tickets are expected to be the most expensive ever - and that doesn't include travel.

So, would you be better off trying to fly or should you hit the road and drive?

Boston 25 News crunched the numbers and no matter how you look at it, it's going to cost a lot of time and money.

Carl Richardson, the director of travel administration with AAA Northeast says their phones have been ringing.

On average, each ticket holder will spend $7,500 on tickets, travel and hotel.... and that number can easily skyrocket.

Richardson says after getting your game tickets, it's all about traveling. Minneapolis, though, isn't on his list.

"I want to introduce the idea of Milwaukee as an option. Milwaukee is only four to five hours away. It's only 300 miles and not only affordable flights, car rentals are available," said Richardson.

He says if you plan on flying, travel on off-peak days and try and fly direct.

"I always look at a stop or connection in the winter months as being an opportunity for delay," said Richardson.

But flying can be expensive. So, what about driving?

It'll take you approximately 21 hours, but it is much less expensive. For a car that gets 20 miles a gallon, at the current price, you'll spend about $350.
