Sale sharp in Red Sox win over Twins

FORT MYERS, FL — The Boston Red Sox were led by their regulars Wednesday as they collected a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins in Grapefruit League play.

Chris Sale received the nod on the hill and he dazzled the Twins’ bats. The 6-foot-6 lefty hurled five innings of two-hit, scoreless baseball while striking out seven.

Mookie Betts knocked in Boston’s first run in the top of the second inning with an RBI single off Twins starter Tyler Duffey (3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER), scoring Eduardo Nunez.

Mitch Moreland added some insurance with a solo home run over the right field wall in third inning to make it 2-0.

Logan Morrison drove in the lone Twins run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning off Brandon Workman.

Former Red Sox reliever Addison Reed, who signed a two-year deal with the Twins over the offseason, threw a scoreless 1.2 innings.
