Rob Gronkowski avoids retirement questions at Supercross event

Rob Gronkowski has gone from evading defenders to questions as doubt grows about his status for the 2018 season.

The Patriots tight end hasn't given a firm answer about whether or not he'll be back on the field in the fall, and he continued to make fans wait on Saturday at the Monster Energy Supercross event at Gillette Stadium.

Gronkowski made an appearance at the podium in full racing gear, and used his outfit as a way to avoid reporters' questions about retirement.

"We'll see how my riding goes," Gronkowski said when asked if he'd be back on the field.

Gronkowski used a similar answer when asked if he'd be going to any of the team's optional offseason workouts.

"No, I've got riding skills to work on," Gronkowski said.

The tight end did give some hope with one answer during the press conference, but then gave a "maybe" as a response when asked if he just confirmed he would be back on the field.

“They’re going to see a freak-a-leak when I come back," Gronkowski said.

After the team's Super Bowl 52 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Patriots have seen a lot of doubt cast on some of their star players' returns. Tom Brady hasn't attended the optional workouts, and an ESPN report said he hasn't officially confirmed whether or not he'll be back in 2018.

The Patriots' full schedule was released earlier in the week, and now the team will just need to find out who will be on the field for those games in 2018.
