BOSTON — The Red Sox have unloaded pitcher Clay Buchholz to the Phillies in exchange for a minor leaguer.

In exchange for the veteran pitcher, the Sox picked up second baseman Josh Tobias. The 24-year-old was last assigned to the Clearwater Threshers in July.

Tobias batted .301 with a .362 on-base percentage in 188 minor league games since the 2015 draft, according to the Red Sox. He's a switch hitter who earned post season all-star honors in 2016.

Tobias has made 164 starts at second base and five in left field in the minor leagues.

Buchholz, 32, has a career 3.96 ERA with an 81-61 record and 899 strikeouts over 10 seasons with the Red Sox. Buchholz was slated to make $13.5 million in 2017.
