Red Sox magic number reduced to one as Yankees beat Blue Jays

TORONTO — The Red Sox are six games ahead of the Blue Jays with six games to play after Toronto lost to the New York Yankees 7-5 on Monday night.

Trailing 3-2 in the ninth inning, the Yankees scored five runs to take the lead and when Dellen Betances struggled in the bottom of the ninth, former Red Sox reliever Tommy Layne finished the game.

The Red Sox begin a three-game series with the Yankees tomorrow night in New York with a chance to clinch the American League East.  David Price will start for Boston, with Luis Cessa on the hill for New York.
