Boston — The Boston Red Sox claimed RHP Doug Fister off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday afternoon prior to the two teams game against each other.

Fister, 33, has made three starts for Triple-A Salt Lake this season. He spent the entire 2016 season with the Houston Astros, making 32 starts and going 12-13 with a 4.64 ERA. The right-hander spent his previous two seasons with the Washington Nationals, finishing eighth in National League Cy Young Award voting in 2014 after going 16-6 with a 2.41 ERA.

President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, acquired Fister in a mid-season trade from the Seattle Mariners while with the Detroit Tigers.
