Price seeks second opinion for elbow soreness

FORT MYERS — Red Sox pitcher David Price is experiencing soreness in his pitching elbow and will seek the medical opinion of Dr. James Andrews.

Price experienced soreness in his elbow after completing his daily routine earlier this week, including a throwing session on the mound and stretching and strength-training exercises.

He is expected to travel to Indianapolis, where Dr. Andrews is currently attending the NFL Combine, to meet with the sports world's most renowned orthopedic specialist.

"He's gone through some soreness in the forearm and elbow area in previous Spring Trainings, but this one has got a little bit more intensity to it," said Red Sox manager John Farrell.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski admitted there is concern when a pitcher's elbow is ailing.

"You're concerned any time any of your pitchers have a sore elbow," said Dombrowski. "To what extent, at this point, we'll have to wait until the doctors see him. But you never like to see a guy step down, no matter what, as far as missing any time is concerned. We'll wait and we'll see, because we just don't have enough information at this point."
