BOSTON — Dustin Pedroia will not play Friday night against the Seattle Mariners following an early exit from Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers with left knee pain.

This news comes as no surprise after Pedey was listed as day-to-day following the sompletion of the Red Sox sweep of the Rangers but deals a significant blow to the Red Sox middle infield strength.

Going into Friday night's game the Red Sox duo of Pedroia and short stop Xander Boagaerts have played in 345 games together placing them  third all-time on the list of games played together by Red Sox middle infielders. Jody Reed and Luis Rivera played in 356 games together from 1989-1992 and Mike Andrews and Ricco Petrocelli who played in 457 games together from 1966-1970.

Positional consistency aside, Pedroia has not recorded an error at second base in his last 79 games the last one coming against the Detroit Tigers on August 19 of last season.
